Planets of Old Cave In

Cave In is easily one of my favorite bands ever and I was devastated that I missed their performance at Great Scott on July 19, 2009 since it sold out instantly. As luck would have it, I am getting another chance to see the band live and so are their other fans in the greater Boston area. This will be the first time I've seen them since their 2003 Lollapalooza appearance at The Tweeter Center in Camden, NJ. Cave In, Trap Them, and Narrows have announced the following mini-tour for November:

November 19th Brooklyn, NY - The Knitting Factory
November 20th Philadelphia, PA - First Unitarian Church
November 21st Providence, RI - Club Hell
November 22nd Cambridge, MA - The Middle East (Downstairs)

Cave In are also planning to release a CD version of their Planets Of Old EP which can still be streamed here. I was lucky enough to get a vinyl copy of Planets of Old from Vacation Vinyl in the extremely limited 'All Natural Vanilla Pistachio Ice Cream' color which looks and sounds incredible. A live DVD of their reunion show which took place at Great Scott in Allston, MA this past July is also in the works. No word yet if the DVD will be packaged with the already revealed rarities outing or not, though a January 2010 release date is being planned for it.

The Phoenix posted the video below along with this statement about the aforementioned Great Scott performance: We'll have much more (and better) video from CAVE-IN's reunion/EP-release show at Great Scott last weekend, but we threw together a quick edit to whet your appetites. The show -- the band's first in over four years and only scheduled gig thus far -- sold out in four minutes. We heard whispers that they'll be more shows in the fall, likely in November, but nothing's been confirmed yet. So for the time being, this is all you've got. Stay tuned, we're busy sorting through footage to bring you the two brand-new songs the band debuted at this gig. This was the first song they played at Great Scott: "Luminance," the leadoff track from their 1999 "Creative Eclipses" EP, which set the stage for their game-changing breakthrough album Jupiter the following year.

Fuel TV also posted an interview about the band getting back together and playing new shows which can be viewed here. Additionally, Revolver magazine has a great live report from the event that can be read here. More footage from the Great Scott show as well as the set list can be found below. I am also including download links to their aforementioned space rock classic Jupiter which will always be in my 10 favorite records of all time and the Planets of Old EP. Buy these records if you like what you hear!
