New Track Rundown

It’s time once again to dive into the vast sea of music available on the web with a new track rundown. The first track comes from garage rock mastermind Ty Segall. “Goodbye Bread” is the title track of his new album and showcases his more refined approach to songwriting which even invokes the brilliant simplicity of The Beatles. The album’s cover is featured above and I highly recommend picking it up, especially on vinyl. The warm sounds featured within are meant to be played from a turntable.

Another major standout I found over the last few weeks is “Woods” from the Rosebuds’ highly overlooked album, Loud Planes Fly Low. The song has a memorable chorus that soars above the instrumentation coupled with ingenious use of toy piano. Also included in the rundown is “Headless” by math rock innovators Hella from their upcoming album, Tripper. “Before the Bridge” is the excellent new track featured on Future Islands’ new 7” which comes out this week (Tuesday, July 19, 2011). One of the biggest stories is Clap Your Hands Say Yeah who have finally released new material with “Same Mistake” from their much anticipated third album, Hysterical.

The songs get a little more adventurous toward the end. The one from Moonface is a b-side and not featured on their debut full-length which I raved about in the last new track rundown. “Crystalline” is the first taste of Björk’s sprawling musical project, Biophilia. Although I was disappointed at first, I was hooked once the song started to pick up at the end. The two incredible hip-hop tracks from pioneers Wu-Tang Clan and Nas are followed by the avant-garde instrumental collaboration between Sun Araw & Eternal Tapestry. The last track is a sludgy doom metal number from Yob. If that doesn’t sound like your thing, I advise skipping it. When I say it’s heavy, I mean steamroller heavy. "Prepare the Ground" is a very appropriate title indeed.

As for the videos, they are all over the place from the nostalgic (White Denim, Eleanor Friedberger) to the goofy (Hammer No More the Fingers, Dananananaykroyd) to the breathtakingly gorgeous (Explosions in the Sky with their first music video). Yuck take the NSFW tag to a new level by mashing a bunch of naughty bits together. I think they were trying to make a statement about how disgusting we are or something. You can see/hear all this and more below. Where available, I added when you can catch each act in the greater Boston area.
